Volunteer Centers work with non-profit organizations to develop internal disaster response plans, as well as external community support in the event of a disaster or large-scale emergency.
When an emergency arises, a group of community volunteers is coordinated through a Volunteer Mobilization Center (VMC), which serves as a clearinghouse for emergency resources and needs.
Volunteers offering help in response to announcements from the Office of Emergency Management would be interviewed, registered and are referred to emergency/disaster related volunteer duties requested by agencies throughout Maryland.
